Are You a Woman with Flavor?

Matthew 5:13-16 (NIV)

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Salt is able to preserve something and keep it from spoiling.  Salt is considered precious and used to bring out the flavor in food.  Salt enhances whatever it is put on and makes food pleasant to eat. At one point in time, salt was traded and seen as valuable and rare. Biblically, salt represents fidelity and contains honorable qualities.  In the above scripture, Jesus is sharing that his followers will have characteristics like Him and will follow their calling which God has placed in them.  Jesus refers to them as ‘Salt of the Earth'.

A Seasoned Woman or a Woman of Flavor...

·       Speaks the Truth

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.-Ephesians 4:15
·       Tries to Live a Life Pleasing to God and Follows the Commandments of God

If you love me, you will obey what I command. –John 14:15

·       Watches Her Speech Carefully

“Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye

ought to answer every man.”—Col. 4:6

·       Uplifts Her Sisters and Encourages Others

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”  - 1 Thessalonians 5:11

·       Makes the Best Use of Her Time

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. – Colossians 4:5

·       Is a Blessing to Her Family & Others

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.- Philippians 2:1-4

·       Is Kind and Charitable

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" – Acts 20:35

·       Studies the Word of God and Shares it With Others

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.- Mark 16:15

On the flip side, there are some negatives to too much salt.

A Salty Woman is…

·       Unbalanced

·       Spoiled

·       Lets her emotions control her

·       Holds grudges & plots revenge

·       Thinks she is in control of everything

·       Refuses to seek God

·       Tears others down

·       Always puts herself first

·       Uses her time, talent, and tithe for selfish motives

·       Is a curse instead of a blessing

Ask yourself which type of woman you are at this time in your life.  I like to think that I am a Woman of Flavor, but at times, I can be salty.  Fortunately, I have a savior in Jesus Christ who can work miracles, heal any sickness, and soften any heart.  I strive to be a Seasoned Woman, a woman that realizes and lives by being “the Salt of the Earth.”   What kind of woman are you?
